My Jerseys will need a ramp. They are the last ones in the coop and by then all the good seats are taken. Then they huddle on the floor.

It may be their size as well.

I don't know how high your roost is, but I highly recommend a ramp for the bigger girls because it can be hard on them to jump down from any bit of height. I have a big BA who very carefully walks down the ramp every morning while the smaller girls just jump down. It's like she knows she's too big to be doing that! Love that girl.... my big broody mama

about plastic, I have to wrap the quail run in plastic for the winter. I could use a tarp but that seems like it would make it so dark, like a cave.

what mil are you guys using? and, is it plastic dropcloth? or what?

kind of hate to go exploring at the hardward store because I'll find other stuff and spend money! so probably will order on amazon once i figure out what to get.

I've used plastic house wrap the past two winters, of course I have no recollection of what mil it was.... but it held up great in the winter winds! I got it at menards. The only problems with it was that it was kind of a pain to put up and it was noisy when the wind blew. This year I'm trying the clear plastic corrugated panels. They're easier to put up and can be reused from year to year assuming they don't shatter when it's -25 and windy...

I have been thinking of getting my poop board project going all summer!! And now there is even more to get done in the coop then I thought before winter hits. Yikes! I really wanted to put one up.
I was thinking about trying PDZ just on the poop board maybe some sprinkled in the shavings but I really think having that board will really cut down on the poop piled up and less cleanings during winter. Would be really helpful in the long run I think.

That's what I do... PDZ just on the poop board and a little sprinkle in the shavings. The poop board is so easy to clean off, takes a minute each morning with a kitty litter scoop. I don't get much poop on the coop floor at all because they really only go in there to lay eggs during the day.

my poop board is awesome keeps the coop floor clean, i found it is better to have a thinner layer of PDZ then thick layer just my opinion. when i had pdz thicker layer it really sucked to DIG DEEP...lol...

I've found there's a fine line between too thin and too thick.... too thin in the winter and the runny poops soak through the PDZ and freeze to the actual board and then I have to wait for a day over 32 degrees to get it scraped off

I too think you should wait till dusk and put them up there. They will probably stay. I'm wondering if maybe it is a little high? Mine fight on the roost to get a spot and get knocked off several times till they settle in. Mine only have to jump/fall down about 18 inches or so though.

@holm25 great photos of the farm yard. Also, I agree, you were robbed. Your photo was better than those others. The others were good, your was better, had more character due to the surprise of the ducks!

Yep! All of this was true for me as well. Don't know if I've had it to thick. If it spills on the floor I'm fine with that, helps keep things dry

I didn't even think about the poo freezing to board.... Crap. Better find some of that magic dust

Does anyone know how these hold up to freezing temps.. and would it be OK to run heavy duty extension cord to the coop???

I will see if I can get a flattering shot, as you can imagine how hard that will be wearing such a hat. Maybe if I get a chicken in it??

I was organizing in my basement last night and going through some boxes i never even opened after the move. Mostly old memory type stuff. Photos and the like. It was a fun trip on memory lane[


It takes me forever to do that because I get lost in memories..

just another thought,, what about putting layers of newspaper down on poop board and everyday just rolling up layer and tossing it in compost??? any thoughts???
