Such happy gals.

It's done.
Two shots of tequila and four roosters later, I'm ready for plucking.
My flock needs serenity. Other than my randy banty Cochin who is only worth an appetizer we have moved closer.
I'm always amazed how much calmer flocks are without roosters! But, if you want fertile eggs.....and if you find a calm rooster, which by definition is not a teenager, there are some benefits besides eye candy.

So far, Ralphie's roo (still unnamed) is calm. He hasn't even crowed for a few days, so I think the older hens have him well in line. I noticed today when I let the flock out he went to roost in the pines. I watched because I was worried he was sick, but he just waited until everyone ate and then he really chowed down. I have put extra feeders out in out of the way spots so he can eat in peace, but he prefers the main feeders.

He has taken over the main, highly prized roost spot, and I would say there are only two hens who expect him to move out of the way. I hope he goes back to crowing soon.

Who am I to argue?

exactly.

An understatement! He is so adorable when he tries to entice the ladies with goodies.

I think he may actually have caught the attention of the Cochin gals.

You know the song "Baby Got Back"? Well, bantam roosters like big butts too! I used to see my bantams going after the biggest hens in the yard and would laugh my butt off. I don't turn the bantams with the large fowl any more, so it has been a while since I have seen them chasing, then being chased by the big roosters.
I was laughing so hard watching a Bantam Cochin fighting with a big rooster, like an Australorp or Orpington, I can't remember that part. The Cochin kept ducking and running between the bigger one's legs. You could almost hear him saying, "What's wrong with ya? Can't catch me?" Like something out of a cartoon!
