Minnesota!

I think it's a great idea. Brings new life into a home during the dreary winter months.

Where do you keep them?

I use XL dog crates at first with heat lamps. It really holds the heat in and keeps the chicks toasty. Then they move on to XL guinea pig cages for the breeds that fly or just Rubbermaid totes on the silkies. Last year I had so many in at once I threw together refrigerator boxes in the basement and made condos for them. When they get old enough, they move out to the garage brooder pens and eventually out to the barn.

Klop you could build Up one side of that 11 foot pen with a 2 x 6 x 12. Screw it to the framework on one side and create a slant for your tarp. That will give you a nice 6 inches to create a pitch so snow should slide off. Tarps are tough to deal with in the wind though. Maybe put lower side on prevailing wind side. Extra tight on the tie downs.

Here is a little paint drawing of how it is set up. I ran a length of 2x4s down the side of each shed screwing it to each stud. It was positioned so I could just squeeze a 2x4 standing the tall way between it and the eve. There is a end wall on both ends with a door on one end.

Unfortunately, I think this means there would be no way to make a slant for snow to run off. It would only leave me the option to use a roof rake to scrape it off when it got deep.

the peaks of the sheds run east/west so maybe it would stay blown off pretty well since most of the wind runs from west to east there. I didn't have much for snow accumulation on those roofs last year.
