I've allowed my new babies ( ten weeks) to have supervised time with the flock. The older gals are not exactly welcoming them with open wings.
While it is clear that the pecking order has to be established how much bullying is too much? They are getting pecked but not injured.

I had an interesting night at church. We rent our house in town to fellow church members. We told them a few weeks back that we plan to sell it when the lease is up in march. They did some pre-emptive research in renting another house and realized what a deal we were giving them (basically they pay the mortgage payment) and told us that they are possibly interested in buying the house from us! can you imagine how much work that will save me if we dont have to sell on the open market! plus we should be able to cut them a deal if we don't have to factor in realtor costs and sell it private party! We have a little leg work to do to figure out how much we would sell it for but exciting no less!

For pricing, have 2 or 3 realters come out and do a market analysis, it is free. Or do a search on https://www.themlsonline.com/minnesota-real-estate for comparable houses and what they are asking.

I have a automatic watering system with cups, but I turned it off last week so it wouldn't burst with freezing temps coming up. I have heard of people doing this but I'm not sure if its cruel or normal, is it okay to let your chickens eat snow over the winter? I know I will still need water for my ducks and geese.

They need access to fresh water at least once a day to fill up on, 2 would be better if they don't have it all day.

This is what scares me the most a about adding in any new chicks, I know I will have to go through it, but i'm curious too, how much bullying is too much?

came home to chickens hiding under the coop and two hawks in the pines in the run. Got the chickens in the coop, I'll set up the fencing tomorrow before letting them out to keep them in the "safe" area.


those lemon roos are gorgeous!

One can never have enough grandkids.



The wind most likely came from the same place the grandkid did. It just happens and no one knows why or how.

oh my that was allot of reading to catch up on.. forgot how tiring having a new puppy is.. all night last night i set my alarm for every hour.. and the good news is he only peed on my bed twice..LOL.. good thing he only weighs 2 1/2 lbs...Named him Aspen went to vet today and he is perfect.. we went toy shopping.. and i had to get me a new hairbrush since the bristles all got chewed off and while i was at the store i got myself a new iphone cord since it somehow got chewed in 2.. this morning he actually caught a chicken by the tail. he had his mouth closed on the tail feathers and the chicken was just staring at him, so i scolded him and he let go and the chicken took off across the yard... i will have to teach him NO chicken chasing,,, it was really cute though,, almost to cute to yell at him..

Well, so now that I am up to six birds again, and they are adapting well (kept them apart all day) but the point is: I have this cute 3 x 4 coop with the nest boxes off the side. One of those cute little kits since I had to do this on my own - no DH (contractor) would help. I even put a little 4 x 3 run on the front. I was told it was big enough for six. No Way would I leave six chickens in that small a space. But I intended to free-range them. So this would work out fine. Til the Eagles got my Australops. You can't have eggs without chickens . . . . . I began scheming how to build a run large enough to restrict the birds free-ranging days. I dug out the ground (again) and lined it with cement block along with all the buried fencing. Well, my DH didn't want it to look 'getto' (and it was as I was pounding metal stakes in the ground, wondering how this was going to hold up) so he built a run that is 6' high x 5' wide and 9' long off the back of the present run and it is over the coop. Then HE decided it needed a metal roof and not just plywould with tar paper (which is what I would have done.) Then it needed a shed roof off the front to dress it up so he built that on. Then I stained it and wired it (hardware wire) and then I wrapped it in plastic (getting ready for winter). Where do the chickens like to roost? On top of the slanted roof coop. So I found a board and leveled across the top of the coop and fixed it up with a nest box. They love it and that is where all six birds are tonight. Roosting. If only
