Minnesota!

Mila is fine. She had me worried though. I think she may have just been under the weather and was sleep off something or she was out hunting. I found a pile of Blue Jay feathers by the brooder house, so who knows? She is good though and acting frisky today. I am so relieved. I grabbed her up and snuggled her and she loved it. Then she went into the brooder house by the chicks and thought maybe they were mice, so I had to give her a pop on the nose. I better keep an eye on her with chicks now. It is funny that the two adults were wild and they never bothered a chick ever. This one is hand raised most of the time and she is all wanting to get up to see what is in the tub. I better get a wire top on it.

I managed to do a little work before everything got soaked today. 3:00 came and so did a storm. It was short but fierce and dropped over a 1/4 in on us in a few minutes. I had to wait it out inside the big coop. I did manage to get a clear tarp I have cut and stapled in place on a couple of hutches. I did have it on the East end of the attached runs last winter, but the grommets gave out, so I used it for something else. I have to do more though, lots more. However, tomorrow I may not get much done. The Performance Dance group that my daughter dances with is have a fund raiser Saturday and yours truly was the idiot who volunteered to organize it. Oh joy. It is having a concession stand during a holiday craft expo at the school. Actually, it isn't anything too involved, mostly just had to get everyone to sign up and agree to help out. It should go well. We are going to have things like banana bread and muffins and donuts and cookies and such, with coffee, hot cocoa and juice. There is going to be a Santa there for the kids to see too. I hope it successful and we can do it again instead of the other thing they normally do, which is put on a dance party for like 40-50 little girls. That is work.

Both kids are out until 9ish. I thought I would clean the bathroom, but I suddenly find myself less that motivated for that. LOL

When i get home i noticed that one of my rainbow hens seems to have some of her under fluff poking through the top feathers. What do you guys think? what can cause this? picking? just from the windy day?

You have roosters, right? She is close to laying or is laying, right? Maybe you should rename Conrad to Action Jackson?

And if you don't want this to get even more messed up, you might think about making some saddles or buying for the hens. The will most likely all look like that by Spring and worse. My hens are mostly barebacked by April.

Yeah but only 2 roosters for 53 hens! He doesnt seem like he is THAT passionate haha

I would guess klop that is wear from rooster treading. She's maybe a favorite.

Ivie a 3 x 4 coop is enough space for 3 birds. 4 square feet per standard size bird to avoid pecking issues. I'm glad your adding on a larger run. Recommended size for a run is 10 square feet per bird.

Those lemon striped cuckoos looked neat. But I think I'm coming around and have a general idea that heritage birds are the way to go for me and not so much a "designer" breed. For me any how.

Congrats LaLa on the new family member. Sniff that new baby for me. Mmmm . They smell so good. Cuddly too. ;)
