Minnesota!

I just finished putting the 3rd and final coat of seal on the floor. It will be good and dry by tomorrow morning! Heres a before and after.
Very Nice!!

Has anyone ever heard of Flemming Poultry farm?

Is it one of you? (us)?

I was passed by a trailer that said that on the side last night by Rogers. It said purebred chickens, just was wondering about it and the breeds.
I believe they are just farm supplies, not actual chickens for sale.

Funny one:
So my husband and I were out walking the yard and yapping. I was telling him that since I took Cluck-Cluck's pinless peepers off I have to keep a close eye on her, (she is a terrible feather picker) I said "hopefully she doesn't start plucking Mothers feathers out or i'll have to put the peepers back on her" My husband said "yeah, she is a Mother plucker."

Love it!!

A mama cat and her 4 kittens came with the farm when we moved here. We decided to keep them. Anyway, our mama kitty was missing for 2 weeks. She came home last night, very hungry, but otherwise looking good. We were very happy to see her!
But... Today, one of her grown babies got hit on the road. We knew it was bound to happen, because the cats keep crossing the road, but I can't keep them locked in that barn all day, and you can't train a cat. Hoping they learn to watch out before we lose any more. At least it was quick, and we didn't have to make any decisions. .. *sigh*
I seem to always have extras if anyone needs any.

oh happy day! went out at dawn, did the chickie chickie call while walking around looking for evidence, and out from the woods comes running and half flying the missing Jenny! wet, bedraggled, but unharmed. I'll take a closer look later this morning to check for puncture wounds in case a hawk carried her off, but judging from the lack of missing feathers I odn't think thats a problem. she hasn't molted yet.

the woods she came from are not where my flock has ever ever wandered, as it is past the meadow.

I'm sure I annoyed all the hunters with my calling not to mention cries of jubilation, but....
Nice to hear she's back.

Scandia: my first year with multiple Roos I made saddles for hens. The best I did was going to a Salvation Army or second hand store and found wool sweaters. The must be 60-70% wool or more. Put them in a hot washing machine and dryer to felt them. Then I cut out a square that is about the size of a chicken back and sides narrowing at the top and 2 - 3 inch slots to bring wings through. Worked like a charm. No sewing.

Let's talk chicken saddles. Are they cheep to come by or best made on your own?

*waving hi to Ralphie*
Both, I"ve made them and bought them. depends on what you want to spend. I like to get them from this lady on etsy:
Red Hippo Studios hen saddle chicken apron
They are 7 bucks. She tells you how to measure the hen for the correct size saddle, it has a cute little tail flap, plus, you can request any color you want, for example, for my Silver laced wyandotte I requested white and black, for my EE, I requested browns, like pheasant colors,( wanted them to blend in) they are very nice, quilted.

She also sells the e-pattern to make them for 1.99 I believe.
Funny thing about blending in, my SLW Mother was wearing one the other day, the neighbor came over and mentioned how pretty her feather pattern was,

As she is molting, she is not pretty, she was seeing the saddle, but didn't realize it.

Can you post a photo? That would help.

I really do not understand women. I know that is hard to understand.

She wants me to cut down on turkeys. I suggested I could take Penguin with us on vacation as their is a person in Memphis that would like him. She did not give me an answer fit to print here. I guess she does not really want me to get rid of any birds.

I did the same as Bogtown for saddles except I got fleece remnants from the fabric store for next to nothing. Also no sew, which is good because I don't know how to sew...

I've got a pot of Bogtown's Chicken Dumpling soup on the stove

All I can say is wow. Except I burnt the **** out of my mouth because I couldn't wait to try it!

@scandiafowl here is a pic of one of my hens wearing a fleece apron. She didn't need it because of a rooster, she needed it because she was horribly bullied by my other hens so she was naked on her entire back half

I cut a tail hole in mine just for some extra coverage and to keep it from blowing in the wind and exposing her back.

Do the hens keep them on?

The hen in the picture wore hers constantly, I would just put a clean one on every week or so. I think she actually liked it. Unfortunately she is no longer with us :(
I tried to put one on my SLW last winter when she molted when it was really cold out, she freaked out and just couldn't get used to it so I took it off. I don't think they can easily get them off themselves, they just might not like it. I guess it depends on the hen.
