He's not. Not to this thread anyway. There was some drama here so a new Minnesota thread got started for those people who don't want to be here anymore

Ok... the sun is shining, the snow is melting... Time to get outside and embrace the day! I am almost done preparing the shop for my kitten pack to move out of our basement. They are getting so big!

Again, sorry i havent been sharing any photos... my iphone is off at apple getting repairs still and my temporary replacement takes poor photos

oh boy. If I have this one lonely silkie, ...shoot. I could see the others eyeing the roosts and watching my flock get up on the roosts. Think I'll go out and check to see where she ended up at in the coop. hope it isn't by herself!

Does she have a buddy? You could make a cage on the wall like I have for her and a friend if you are concerned. Make a low roost for them.
I can try taking some pictures of mine to show you what I mean.

Well I just had a disgusting morning tea experience... I poured the hot water into my cup and noticed one of those Asian lady beetles floating in there! Okay, I guess that's not all that disgusting, but I can't help but imagine how gross it would be to accidentally swallow one of those things!
I saw a photo on facebook the other day of a dog that had a bunch of them lodged in the roof of its mouth. Gag! Blood and guts I can do. Clumps of bugs, especially in someones mouth, nope nope nope!

Didn't I tell you all the story of my son getting one in his mouth this fall? He was walking down the sidewalk in town after school and one got in his mouth, but it bit his lip also, and in 4 places inside his mouth. He throat started swelling and of course the taste was horrid. I had to take him to the dr. to get checked right away. He was fine, but was spitting and trying to rinse the taste out all day.

integration is a pin in the patootie. The little silkie has decided to go broody (really?) and hasn't eaten or had anything to drink. The little bantam rock runs around going "meep-meep" and gets chased by the rooster and a couple of the girls. No one can tell the buff orp from my current buff orp, so she is home free. THe barnvelder is timid and hasn't left the coop. The red star doesn't care and has been everywhere. THe dominque is drinking and drinking and drinking and drinking - everyone is eating hay like there is no tomorrow. I am salting the feed dish like crazy with grit because they were eating crumbles and maybe have no grit in their crops!

I'm taking a break to get warmed up, its snowing. going to be hard to accomplish much today!

I never feed grit. I always use crumbles and have never had a problem. It is already ground, wet, and extruded, so the coarseness of the corn in it alone helps with any other grinding the gizzard needs.

I hate hate asian beetles. My bed is under my windows, facing west, so if there are beetles they are on the window. Even trying to keep them cleaned up, sometimes I wake up with one on my face! or biting my neck. a plague on whoever brought them to this country.

Turns out you have to have the ratchet open flat before it will let the strap go! Once I learned that on youtube, I got the truck unloaded and all the pieces measured. Its going to be like a jigsaw puzzle whatever I do. Perfect thing to do by the fire later this winter on one of those days you don't want to go out.

Minniechickiemama, that silkie is doing ok! I'm going to see if she can get up into the coop ok, I think she can. And she isn't broody, she was making broody sounds but just wanted to lay a teeny tiny egg. which is good because my girls are totally on strike with the new hens in town.

I'm doing electrolytes in the water since some hens are a little stressed. I broke my rules and put feed and water in the coop, and have the door open, so the new pullets can see outside. It usually takes new chickens a few days to figure out the chicken exit.

yeah you sure dont need grit if you just feed crumbles, or even if you feed scratch and they have good access to ground where they can pick up rocks.

But I feed mash, so they need the grit. And I know hens can get their crop packed with long grass, so I figure the long hay will be even worse. keeping my fingers crossed they don't get a sour crop. Nothing I can do though. I threw some brussel sprout stems with leaves into the coop so they have something to nibble on besides hay, there was already feed for them to eat. I think they were on dirt and shavings, so apparently hay is a real treat.
