Minnesota!

I feel so torn... but I love you all and will be faithful to both sites.. kinda feels like a Divorce and us children have 2 homes now...

well, the funniest thing would be if every single person here went to that thread. But clearly, not everyone is welcome, because if everyone was welcome, bogtown chick wouldn't have started her own thread, so that bothers me.

I like both persons (heck, I like everyone on this thread) that are on the other thread, and wish both felt they had the where-with-all to handle posting here. And if they are not able to handle it, well, I guess they have to do what they want to do. But as much as I miss them, I don't think the solution is to go to that thread. Because.....there will always be someone you don't see eye to eye with. But we don't have to all think alike to enjoy each other's company, thoughts, experience, and chitchat on this thread. And it would be boring if we did!

And as far as I am concerned, life is to danged short to get bent out of shape because you think someone dissed you on a thread about Minnesota and chickens

What also strikes me is hilarious is the chatter that used to be on this thread about how nice we all are! I still think we are all nice.

I, too, wish we could all just settle our differences/let water flow under the bridge and perhaps that will happen over time. If a little time apart is what it takes, then so be it. We will just have to wait it out and see! I'm not one to hold a grudge and hope everyone feels the same, because every single person I have interacted with on here I would consider 'good people'

Yup, it's all just so silly because as far as I could tell there was only one person they really took issue with.
Personally, I'm just going to stick to one thread. Unless of course everybody moves over there and I'm left here talking to myself LOL

well the hullabaloo on this thread is nothing, I repeat, nothing compared to the chaos in the coop tonight. 25 chickens and every single one was complaining and pecking and jostling and moving.

these new hens, you can tell they never roosted. They look at the roost, hesitate, start, stop, eye it, repeat. And then when they finally do launch themselves up there, they land and flap their wings like crazy as if they are on a tight rope. These are big roosts so should be easy- but they will learn.

The newbies were in the second half of the coop come dusk, and the hens that normally roost in that room wouldn't go in there, so they were fighting with their flockmates and taking their favorite roost spots. It was like dominoes. One pecks, that one pushes their neighbor, the neighbor cusses out the hen to the left, the hen on the left flies down and flies to a different roost, upsetting that hen.....good lord!

And, that tiny bantam launched an attack on the sulmtalers. Those are big, slow moving, fluffy, gentle and quiet hens. Poor girl just wanted to make her way to her side of the roost, and that little bantam, who had been chased most of the day by the rooster and others, had had it and jumped feet first on the sulmtaler.

yeah you sure dont need grit if you just feed crumbles, or even if you feed scratch and they have good access to ground where they can pick up rocks.

But I feed mash, so they need the grit. And I know hens can get their crop packed with long grass, so I figure the long hay will be even worse. keeping my fingers crossed they don't get a sour crop. Nothing I can do though. I threw some brussel sprout stems with leaves into the coop so they have something to nibble on besides hay, there was already feed for them to eat. I think they were on dirt and shavings, so apparently hay is a real treat.

I have not had much issue with any birds getting sour crop except Welsummers. I forget now how many of them I have had get it, and almost always from pigging out on grass. I think I have only lost one though, the rest I got cleared up.

Must be something in the air, mine were crazy tonight at roost time as well! I had to stay and supervise!

Quote: I had one that had sour crop last fall. I was able to clear it up, but not before she lost alot of weight, and then went into a molt... @lalaland it was due to hay. I put it in the run, within a week she had sour crop. I took it out of the run. put wood chips in instead. this winter i'm trying leaves.
