Minnesota!

Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoying a few days at my daughters in Chicago...neighbor caring for the chickens and goats. I worry about them.

Well this little girl is testing my patience. Yesterday I was calling the U-M to bring her in and this morning she was in the bathroom squawking away at the top of her lungs. I jumped out of bed ran to the bathroom to see what was the matter. And I think she was just bored and wants out of the shower. So I figure I would just brush my teeth and start my day. And as I was brushing my teeth she was eating and drinking. So I gave her her morning anabiotic's soaked her ears and cheeks with warm washcloth and cleaned her ears out again with the dog ear cleaning solution. She seems very lively this morning and both of her eyes are open, not wide but opened. Darn girl just wants to survive. Here are a couple of pictures after I cleaned up her head. And since she pooped on the towel I will add that picture also, because I know how we all love poop pictures. And I didn't notice before her legs on the front look kind of white compared to the back of her legs does that look like frostbite on her legs I'm thinking she might have got it when she got kicked out of the henhouse . so I figure if she's going to try and get better I might as well give her another dose of the pour on med for lice or mites just in case she does have some and I just can't see them.

Is it just me or does she look better?

Has anyone here ever dealt with fowl pox? Some of my chickens have the black dots on their combs. They are not mites as I cannot scrape them off.

Overall the flock is well, none appear ill, egg production and appetites are in good shape.

Hi Coffe1st
Her legs look normal to me although I'm no expert. Poop looks a little dry maybe she wasn't drinking enough water? have you given her yogurt? I give mine the plain full fat type now and then.
All and all she does look better! You're a good chicken momma !

I was peeling potatoes and I was thinking about my hubby and I told him I loved him and I swear I heard him say he loves me 2. The same time I pulled this potato out of the bag... Awww

She looks way better! Wow! Maybe it took time for the antibiotics to kick in? The poop looks normal, and the color on the legs is also normal, they aren't even colored all the way around. The scales on the front are larger and appear a different shade than the sides or backs. She still looks like h311 but she looks better than the last pictures. Maybe give her a couple more days if she looks any better tomorrow. However, a bird that has some major issues like she seems to have, ends up having recurring issues.

You can Google lots of pictures of fowl pox. They come in dry and wet, and they are like a chicken with chicken pox, it is also the same kind of virus. Could it be there is some dry blood on them from scrapping? On the combs especially, it will look like black dots and not easily flake unless there is a whole bunch of it. If you haven't treated your flock for external parasites, that is an option if you think it is mites or something but pox start as lumps like pimples then break into a open pox. Options for either are limited as it is a virus.

How sweet is that?!?! I have had heart shaped ones we have dug up. You know, our loved ones send us little reminders that they are still with us, we just need to pay attention

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!!!! I won't say turkey day since we are not having turkey this time. I bought some nice ribeyes and we have other things that will go with those, and my husband bought some seafood, so it is a surf and turf holiday. I do have a half turkey thawing still for either tomorrow or Saturday. Just the four of us either way since our oldest and his GF are working today and going to her folks tomorrow and spending the night. They might come out for brunch or lunch over the weekend, but they work both days over the weekend too. MIL#2 doesn't travel in bad weather, so I didn't even bother with the invite to our place where we aren't doing anything too special. The rest of my family is way out of state, so that wasn't an option. I hope to have some of those ones come here one of these years when we have accommodations available for them to stay here.

Anyway, I better go take care of the birds and get back in to get some of the dishes going and not eat too later.
You all have a lovely time with your friends and families and be thankful for all the wonderful chickens and turkeys and ducks and geese and guineas and whatever other fowl you have, have brought us altogether to share our crazy stuff here!
