Minnesota!

Our local snowmobile dealer gives away the crates they come in. I made a little coop out of one to use as a safe house for my hen that was getting picked on so badly. Now that she's gone I use it as a broody buster, works great for that. It's always handy to have a place to put somebody who needs to be separated. I also made a little straw storage shed by putting two of them together. I'll post some pics when I get on my laptop.

It's something like 2' x 3' x 6.5'
I was thinking of Foxy's idea - it would be a great broody buster crate. Or....a quarantine coop. or.....

Its cold this morning!
Last night when I went to shut up the door to the quail coop, I had a second of panic when I saw the roost was empty. But, found them all in the traditional funny circle on a hay bail. I keep loosening up the hay so they can burrow in it as I have head they do that to stay warm, but maybe it isn't quite cold enough yet to do that.

The silkie laid a tiny egg, think I get one from here about every 3 or 4 days. I don't know if that is because she is just starting to lay or if silkies just aren't big egg production machines?

I went to one of these and stood in the line to get a table saw. I had some really nice folks around me to chat with. I was lucky.

There was an interesting lady standing next to me yakking away while we waited yesterday. She went on and on about how many stores she went to and what she was interested in... then it got awkward. She started making really off comments about 'how you never see black people out shopping on black friday' it made everyone very uncomfortable and she kept making follow up comments like 'I'm part american indian, so im not a racist' as if that made it better. We all basically turned away from her and ignored her.

My Silkies have been outlaying everyone this fall! In fact, all I have been getting are Silkie eggs and 1 or 2 from the little bantam crossbreeds I hatched last spring. I did start getting the loveliest olive egg from my one EE I kept. However, I am pretty certain the other little black hen in that pen is also an EE and not an Ameraucana (with white ear lobes and a much different body type).
I just charge less for the dozen eggs with all bantam/pullet eggs in them. I use 3 for 2 when baking with them, unless they are really small, then it is 2 for 1.
