Minnesota!

I think I need a game cam. I also think I could add some fencing to keep the dog out - and I wouldn't have to add a lot, maybe 200 feet in one area, and maybe 100 in another would end up enclosing the area around the run. But, that would mean putting in a gate and messing with it when I wanted to drive the truck up for unloading feed and hay. And, it would not keep the dog out if it wanted to dig. But it would provide another layer of defense. **** dog and **** neighbor.

edited to add: interesting, I can say hell, but not d a m n

Sorry to hear about your hurt and missing hens, have you considered an electric fence? I would definitely put out a game cam.

I recently acquired 2 barn cats, feral, who get food and water and a warm place to stay in hopes they help will rodent control. I rarely actually see the cats. I have wondered if I still have them...but today I found partially eaten mice outside the coop! Yay! My cats are around and are doing their job! As soon as I let the chickens out they found the carcasses and it was pretty funny watching them chase eachother in an effort to get a bite. The cats came from a horrible situation in which they never had human contact and were locked in a truly filthy house littered with feces and dead cats as well as a whole bunch of other starving cats. I didn't know if these poor cats would ever venture outside the barn, but they do! And now they are living a cat's life!

A few years ago when my parents returned from their annual trip to Mexico they found a young female cat sleeping in their outside bbq.
She adopted my parents and turned out to be preggers as well. Sweetest thing.
She sleeps with my dad all the time.

Who knows what may have happened to her if she hadn't found our farm.

I am glad to hear she is doing better.  Personally, I would have a gun at the ready for that dog then.  And for the owner to try to play it off the way he did.  I SO hate seeing people who are irresponsible with their pets like that.  I hope Seaquist surprises you and shows up again.

I drove to town today, and our driveway was the worst part of going.  It is staying warm enough that what precipitation we have gotten over the last 24+ hours has been rain.  I think what we have on the ground right now will be gone by the weekend.  I hope.  It looks like we will have a fairly mild December from the forecast I looked at this morning.  I won't mind.  Of course, the one year I have everyone inside of a coop is when it is mild.  LOL

As much as I dislike shooting things a small bullet in that dogs posterior may be aversive enough to avert future problems.

Back when I was a kid people used rock salt on dogs or bad kids in their yards! a cousin of mine got it once, that I know of.

Hi Everyone! I am new to chickens and BYC. I live in Elk River. I'm trying to plan for the spring already (maybe just wishing it was spring instead) by figuring out what chickens to add to my flock. Dang chicken math has already caught up with me. Anybody know or have, day old Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and Gold Laced Wyandotte day old chicks? I am looking to purchase in Februaryish. Any leads would be helpful. I just don't want to worry about shipping if I can find it local. Thanks!
