@lalaland I would definitely put up a fence and a game cam! we actually fenced in our whole yard due to a neighbors dog that they wouldn't keep in their yard...I agree with MInnie, some pet owners are terrible and should not have pets!.

Cluckies, my backyard is technically township. I'm on 2.5 acres and I only have one neighbor. They say they can't even hear the roo. If they ever have an issue I asked them to tell me and I will make soup. Honestly, I think they enjoy the free eggs so I don't for see it being a problem.

Oh that's good! I'd hate for you to get attached then have to get rid of him. My neighbors love my chickens too!

I don't under stand stupid laws like that, I think dogs barking make more noise than a rooster who only crows a few times a day...

Also, if you can't find anyone with the chickens you want, ramsey farm and garden gets a large variety of birds in every year. some specialty chickens as well.

I don't have either, but I used to have the BLRWs. Sorry. I don't know of any breeders off hand either. The BLRWs are probably easier to find though than the Golden Laced. Does it matter what quality? Breeder quality or hatchery? You can always become a crazy hatching addict and find some on the hatching egg page and hatch them out yourself

I just bought a LG still air 'bator with egg turner for $40 from the local junk dealer auction! I just happened to check the auction on a whim and thought i could waste $40 on worse things I want to play with it to learn about it but will have to resist the urge to set eggs haha

went to count heads and close up the coop door. My missing hen, Seaquist, was on the roost. This isn't possible. She is very distinctive, being that she is the only white chicken except for a silkie. I could not have mixed her with someone else. I had 23 hens last night and tonight I have 24. I looked last night high and low. I looked this morning. I checked on the chickens a couple of times today and didn't see her.

even stranger, I have snow everywhere. There are no chicken tracks in the snow to the run and I checked all 4 sides.

I have no explanation for this at all. But I am incredibly happy, so low today thinking she might be wounded somewhere out in the snow. I looked her over via headlamp and there are no wounds or anything! Her crop was empty, so she wasn't feeding today with the hens. I can't explain this.

Hi Everyone! I am new to chickens and BYC. I live in Elk River. I'm trying to plan for the spring already (maybe just wishing it was spring instead) by figuring out what chickens to add to my flock. Dang chicken math has already caught up with me. Anybody know or have, day old Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and Gold Laced Wyandotte day old chicks? I am looking to purchase in Februaryish. Any leads would be helpful. I just don't want to worry about shipping if I can find it local. Thanks!

Welcome 71chickens! There quite a few of us in the area. I'm also in Nowthen, couple in Zimmerman/Orrock, Anoka, Big Lake, etc.

Hay. Every time I go to the coop I feel like I have shards of hay in my throat. Occasionally I cough until almost throwing up. It's horrible. Also, my chest feels quite heavy all the time, like I just cried for 5 hours, but I don't really feel sick. It's so bad today I fear I won't be able to keep the goats and chickens. I'm giving it the rest of winter to see if its some weird cold. I could live with the shards of hay on my throat. The heavy chest is worrying me. Thoughts?

Agreed with the rest, get it checked out! It might not be the hay itself, but the mold in it.

@Minniechickmama I just came in from hanging out in the chicken coop for a bit before lockdown and was admiring my cornish. The WLR are finally getting to the point where they are so skiddish when i come into the coop. they are also roosting with the other chickens now that it is cold out! the dark cornish are really filling in too! the one looks like a basketball with legs! When you sold them to me and said they were skinny because they were molting i figured they would get a little bigger but not much more... was i wrong! they are solid, meaty girls!

You are quite welcome! I am glad they went to someone who appreciates them! But I have to admit, you got the smaller ones I have a couple I need to take pictures of so you can fully appreciate what they are like, and a couple of males, two are about 16" wide at the shoulders and then there are two who are rounder and just as heavy. My husband doesn't see the attraction, but I think they are such cool birds.

But I have to admit, you got the smaller ones I have a couple I need to take pictures of so you can fully appreciate what they are like, and a couple of males, two are about 16" wide at the shoulders and then there are two who are rounder and just as heavy. My husband doesn't see the attraction, but I think they are such cool birds.

I will have to get my tape measure to the coop and measure the biggest one. she is a fair bit bigger than the other two DCs. They definitely unique. their head/beak/comb shape is unlike any other chicken in the flock.

What do their eggs look like? I am assuming the DCs are laying again (even if only occasionally) but i have no idea who lays what in my coops

Well it's been a while since I've posted on here.
I have a question for any or you bunny people:
I had a male hotot rabbit that I have had since he was a year old (now 5) and I recently purchased a second lion head doe. I kept both of them in separate hutches in our insulated 10'x12' dog house. Muki ( the lion head) was acting fine for a week and then one day I came out there and she had died. This worried me a lot because she had been just fine hours before when I put her outside in her playpen. My initial thought was she had died of a heart attack and but I did disenfectEd both had hutches (which are made of plastic and metal) anyways. My hotot rabbit became depressed when she died and I got a holland lop/jersey wooly mix. From a very nice young woman which by the way Theri, and I can't think of the women's name right now but she told me that she knew your son well and grew up with your advice. Wolfpup (the lop cross) was in perfect health when I got him. Three days ago my hotot died. I became really worried about wolf pup but he was acting just fine. tonight when I went outside to let one of my dogs go to the bathroom and I went and checked on wolf pup one last time; when I went in the building I found him breathing heavily, I picked him up and was going to show him to my mom and see what was wrong when he started coughing up blood which quickly began to spurt out in large amounts out of his mouth. Then he started screaming like I hear rabbits do when they get caught by coyotes and he began to twist around in my arms. When he didn't stop doing this I humanly dispatched him.
