I was hoping to find out more. So far we have 1) the xrays show his heart is good 2) the rattle is most likely not in his lungs, but deeper- like his voice area 3) he has some form of round worm even after all the wormer the lady gave him, possibly gape worm but he can't say for certain, just some sort of round worm, and he had a lot of negative something in his poo when there should be more positive (I'm getting techy I know) 4) the vet thinks it's more than just worms so he gave him antibiotics as well as wormer

He told me either to treat him, bring him in for necropsy, or cull. I chose treat because he hasn't gotten any worse- he just hasn't gotten any better.

I called the lady I bought him from. She told me there's no way he could have had lice or worms and wants to talk to the vet. When I called her back to tell her the vet would call, she never answered... big surprise. I left a message saying I wanted a refund for just the roo. I think that's more than fair. I'm not holding my breath.

Mareks is the vaccine that once chicks are vaccinated and then those birds introduced to an unvaccinated flock that it can be spread to the unvaccinated birds.

hmmm, did he think whatever it was/is is contagious? (not the worms, I know those are, but the rattle in his voice area? And was that related to why he gave the roo antibiotics? (got to go look up where the voice area is :))

Wormers vary in what kind of worms they will treat, and worms are also becoming resistent to some of the wormers. Although I highly doubt from what you've said (that she claimed to have "wormed" him by applying something to his vent) that she actually wormed the rooster, it is something to keep in mind when you worm.

Some who use the chemical wormers rotate what they use, and others won't worm unless they have had a fecal float test to identify what kind(s) of worms are involved so that they can better match the wormer to the worm.

Me? Molly's herbal. Did I say that when I had necropsies done on a couple of chickens in 2014, that the chickens I had treated were good on worms?

Hoping for a good recovery on him.
 
@lalaland, he told me he literally had no idea what the rooster has, but he said it's more than just worms. I know worms reek havoc on a bird though so I'm hoping that makes it better. The problem is that worms don't make a rooster cough, sneeze, and rattle... unless they are gape worms. Here's the link to hear him sneeze and crow. His crow sounds loud, but it was actually quiet and slightly raspy. This is the first few crows he's made since I've had him. He left a good fecal sample for the vet, lol.

That Molly's looks super interesting! What type do you use and do you run your own fecal test?

good lord, I've never heard anything like that crow! The kind of croak before he crows, I hear something like that but not as deep sometimes with the hens. Always seems to me they are almost barking - I figure they get a little dust in their throat or something.

wonder if he has had some sort of damage to his - vocal chords. heck, I don't even know if chickens have vocal chords.

Its a puzzle.

That doesn't sound good! Maybe his sarynx or whatever they have for vocal cords as lalalaland suggested. Or he has something stuck in there?

Poor guy. Reminds me of my nephews during puberty.

If you ever want to share the name of the seller privately, it could help others avoid the same problems.
Hope he heals well!
