I just realized something sad.... My remaining RSL, who was connected at the hip to the RSL I had to put down a few weeks ago, hasn't laid an egg since that day

Poor girl misses her bestie.
She's acting totally fine other than that though. I suppose being a 3 year old RSL might have something to do with it too....

So I have this CA white (leghorn). She is the funniest little hen. We named her White Castle. All the kids that come here for my CSA we run love visiting her. She's now started to do tricks on her own. I was holding treats one day and she started jumping up and down like a little dog. I decided to see if she would jump for treats and sure enough she would jump up and take the treat out of your hand. Now, today I was on the phone outside and all of a sudden someone flew up on my shoulder like a parrot. I was standing, so it was a big launch. This isn't the first time she's done this. She will ride around on your shoulder when you walk then. I'm thinking of trying to train her to do it on command. She is the smartest chicken I've owned. She's so funny. Has anyone had a chicken act like this before?

Hi all! I feel like was hibernating but now with the warmer weather all I want to do is hang out with the chickens and buy more chicks and renovate the coop and sit with the chickens and chickens. Chickens. Thanks for all the posts that kept me busy this morning. Have a good day!

@Minniechickmama and @destiny_56085 , any insight into the sex of this Silkie? I've combed over a lot of threads and was thinking female, but the area of comb near the beak still has me curious. He might be a slow developing male. The Silkie is about 4 1/2 months old. This was after its haircut pampering last night. The poop collector still needs a bath and a beak trim....

I am thinking pullet. I don't see the spiky streamers coming out the head or the rooster feathers in the tail, but don't shoot me if I am wrong. I have some the same age I thought I had 3 and 3, but last week discovered one decided it wanted to be a rooster, so now it is 4 and 2.

If she needs a friend, I have started to hatch some nice little fluffbutts out! I have 7 from last week and more on the way. I have one 4-H kid getting some of the first ones, but there will be more


Okay, looking closer too, with that small of a comb and no wattles, I am more confident it is a pullet.

You have a few new calves on the way, don't you? That red cow in the first picture has got to be getting close. The poor thing. Look at how heavy that calf is and how her back is swaying. At least it isn't freezing cold or 90-degrees out.

Wrong or right, no big deal! These types of things are always 50/50. I wouldn't keep a male, but a female would be great. A friend, a friend....you're going to get me in trouble! Although my hubby is most fond of the Silkie.

She had a little ways to go. She is big though! I think she is the prettiest cow ever! She is a beautiful Tarentaise!It doesnt look like we will have another calf for a week or two.

@holm25 I meant to tell you, we only had one of the does kindle over the weekend, and she only had two and one was a 'peanut' (double dwarf baby who wouldn't have lived for a week), but they both chilled and died the first day, even with a heat lamp on them. That is a crazy thing too, they won't stay together or in the warm spot long enough to keep warm sometimes. It doesn't do any good to raise just one on its own either because they get fat as heck. The last time we had a single Holland, it got so fat that its back legs were splayed and couldn't get them under him at all and it never corrected. Sometimes that stuff happens and I want to throw in the towel on them. smh

I rebred almost all the does this weekend though, so maybe I will be seeing some litters in a month. I sure hope so!
