Minnesota!

Our tomatoes are doing extremely well too. The pepers just keep popping up. We thought we would have to fill in the ones that dont start but there is more popping up each day.

Well I'm headed east to the land of cheese to visit my brother. There is a farm auction going on near his place that we are going to go check out. Hopefully I find something cool. The weather calls for blustery winds so if I'm lucky it might be under attended meaning low prices on everything. Hopefully when you hear from me on Sunday I will be coming back with my truck loaded down with beer cheese and lots of farm junk that will probably make my wife mad he he he

Good luck on your hunt for something cool! All the threads seem slow today so will be patiently waiting for updates!

that wind is something! what a blustery day. heading out for supplies to make a hoop coop for the chicks. It will be pretty long, because I want to use it as a permanent coop. THe red ranger chicks won't be out of it until August, I'm guessing, but I could move everyone to it once it is vacant. Or by then I just might need it from the increase in the flock from broodies hatching.

I'm thinking of not framing in the hoop coop at the bottom with wood. I've seen some use tposts, and that makes more sense to me because the wood will rot after awhile...we'll see.

ENjoy the day!

It is blowing harder today, (and there was snow on the ground this morning!), but yesterday knocked a big tree down on power lines about a mile away and knocked our power out for about an hour. What really made it bad, my brooder house door somehow got blown open. I ALWAYS pull hard enough to hear the latch click, so I really don't know how it could have happened. I closed it and closed the windows as much as I dared without sealing it up too much and letting it get too hot and humid. I think they faired okay. I am glad I hadn't put the new babies out there yet!!!
But then, I had to take DD to a dance competition and needed to get chores done quickly to be on the road for that. Well, no power, no water.

Luckily, as I had finished getting feed to everyone, the water was working.

But it still set me back on my timeline.

I pulled the chickies out this morning and they are noisy!! but all doing well except one that died after hatching. It hadn't absorbed the yolk all the way and probably dehydrated pretty quickly. Poor thing. I still had to late ones coming out.

So, I am doing another cross kind of for a laying bird, a New Hampshire rooster over a Minorca hen. I got 3 out so far, but may do a few more. They will be black with red leakage, maybe a little salmon on the breast, which would be cool.

DD has another day of dance tomorrow all day. I can honestly say, I am not one of those dance Moms. Funny thing though, you don't see a lot of those whacky women like on that show at these things.

Off to fight the wind and get the babies in their brooder. Everyone have a good day.

I managed to buy a lantern, 2 red bell chicken waters, an ventilation fan for my insulated shop that will turn chicken house when we build a new garage and 3 shotguns. They were going so cheap I couldn't help but buy 3. I'm lucky I didn't get 5 or 10!!

auctions! totally recognize the "going so cheap I couldn't help" myself - thats how I ended up with my farm truck.
Pics of the red bell chicken waterers when you get a chance....and are those kitties just totally at home with the chickens? do they spend time in the coop are they good mousers?

you have so much going on, I'm amazed you have time to post, but am so glad you do.
