You have to sign up for a class which is only offered once or twice a year. You can go to the Board of Animal Health website to see if any classes are offered. It cost $25 per person when I went last year. But they served a free lunch at a nice restaurant and lots of coffee and doughnuts during the class. You get a huge notebook full of information on poultry management. There are experts in different areas of poultry management to teach each section throughout the day. You learn the regulations and take a test on what you've learned. About a month or so after the class the District Veterinarian for your area will contact you and come to your place to teach you how to test birds. We also learned how to draw blood to test turkeys. It actually was a lot of fun.

They just had the poultry agent testing course last month, I don't expect they'll have one again until this Fall. I would highly recommend anyone interested in poultry take the course, it's highly informative and run by a great group of people. Just keep watching the website http://www.bah.state.mn.us/animals/poultry/ every few weeks and you can sign up that way because they'll post the sign up information right on the site. The last course in April was held in Alexandria. The next one could very well be any place most likely centrally located in the state.
