Minorca thread!

Sorry to hear its still cold up there. It was 96 here yesterday and was not a fan of it either.
Hate that youve been out of work as well. I hope things pick up for you soon. Lots of changes going on at my job and uncertainty is not much fun.
Hope you get to hatching some birds out soon. I might be interested in some of your Whites at some point also, if you ever part with any of them.
I will keep you updated on how many birds we get hatched out.
John

Things are not much better here in Virginia. Snowed yesterday. Can't seem to figure out how to dress the kids and everyone is sick. I have been with out a job since November 2008. Places are just not hiring and the ones who are don't pay enough to make it worth paying for child care. I think our economy is in a downward spiral, no matter what the news tries to make us think. I hope the weather warms up soon. I don't know how much more of this gloomy weather I can take.

Thanks John, and yes do keep me posted.

Justuschicks,I see you are in Va. Do you know Tom Roebuck of Unionville.Tom loves the Buff color. He has Buff Minorcas and Buff Leghorns. We sometimes exchange stock,Tom is a good breeder and knows Buff.He is working on the Buff Minorcas and has as good as anyone, probably one of the few show quality lines today. Dan Honour

Yes Tom has posted on the Buff Leghorn thread,Self Blue Cochin bantam thread and Blue Andaulsian thread, for starters, and maybe some others threads to:hmmn the Buff Leghorn thread you can see some of the Black Minorca and Buff Minorca crosses,I think he is now into the 3rd or 4th generation backcrosses, from the Black, going back each year to Buff.

So the black hen has the more dominant genes? When I crossed my Buff Roo w/ my Barred Rock hen I got buff to white colored chicks.

As an adult, the bird should be more or less dark orange body if it's a male, with Black Wings/Tail, hackles and saddles may be orange with black center stripe.

If you wind up with pullets they'll be a dull black color with some buff/red in the hackle.

That's what I got with 1st generation Buff/Black, Black/Buff cross.
