Yup Aina--I have always said that too! My Mom always had calicos and they seemed to be the most disagreeable cats on the planet! She didnt believe me that male cats were so different until I "slipped" one on her! Now she just adores Frosty

Never changed the name even after we found out it was a male! I now have a few female cats myself...they are not like the boys and the calico and tortie are definitely more temperamental that the other girls! I wonder if my dilute calico is less crabby that a regular calico? She really can be a sweetheart! Terri O

Sorry I have been so quiet lately. Mena has been busy and not listening for me. She sat in the swing today out under the oak tree by the woods. I came out with the other birds to see what was going on. She had a bag of bread and was feeding them. They love to jump up on the seat and sometimes on the back of the seat to enjoy a treat. Mena's husband was sitting beside her eating watermelon. Did you know that chickens LOVE watermelon? Did you know they will do almost anything to get it? Even grab a piece from a person's mouth.

He wasn't even thinking about that chicken sitting on the back of the seat beside his head when he put a nice cold juicy cube of watermelon in his mouth. Peck. She grabbed a bite just as he put it in his mouth. He decided to take it out of his mouth and give it to her.

She sure was happy but he wasn't.

The guineas had a nest in the coop when it was so terribly hot. The poor little keets cooked in their shells and the mamas had to give up on them. It is cooler now and the guinea mamas made a new nest in the horse stall. Last night one of the mamas didn't go to roost with the other birds. She sat on the eggs all night. It is cooler there but not quite as safe for her since she can't be locked up at night. Maybe nothing bad will happen to her. She is hiding behind a hay bale. If any babies hatch Mena is going to have to do something to keep the cats away. They don't bother the grown up birds but they probably would love to snack on the newly hatched ones. She will have 26 to 28 days to figure out how to keep them safe. Maybe I can help her think of something.

The chickens are not laying very many eggs now. Do you think they got lazy when it was so hot out there or could it have something to do with all those feathers on the ground. Their feathers look very ragedy now and they don't look pretty at all. They don't like having ugly feathers. I heard Sweetie say she wanted some brand new feathers. The other Golden Girls just laughed at her but she was serious. She really does want new feathers. Chicken Chicken said "Sweetie, where do you think you are going to get new feathers?" Sweetie said, "I don't know but I feel kind of itchy like maybe new feathers are starting to grow." All the other girls looked at their backs to see if they had any new feathers starting to grow.
