Miscalculation, Bumbling Lockdown and a Hatch

Personally, I wouldn't add any more sand yet, for a few days at least, but you may find other opinions here. I don't think it will hurt them though.
 
If they were hatched by a broody they would be eating everything off of the ground. Sand is fine and maybe a little necessary for their digestion through the gizzard. I have found that chicks raised by a broody are vastly more resilient then incubated ones who are raised on store bought food.

Oregonkat, they are Potch Koekoek chickens. I actually went to the farmer and collected the eggs,which was about an hours drive from where I live.

They are beautiful!!! I have never heard of this breed. A couple of questions, are they auto sexing, what is the egg color or are they for meat? So glad you did not have do deal with USPS on the shipping.
