Miscellaneous Meeps - Hatching my Dreams

I took a Day 3 peak! I saw quite a lot developing I didn't see anything in the GN D'uccles again, but... I'm pretty sure I saw 3 of the 4 Brahmas going! Whoohoo! So @Antiocheggers it looks like we are getting one season more than Florida! Well, I guess yours are early summer, summer, and late summer but still, super exciting to have some Brahmas growing! I saw several Fizzy eggs and others but I didn't write them down yet.

Oh my, Nora was a little cutie! I see the lighter fluff, interesting. So going back to our lighter vs dark Blues, could a light blue be due to some gene that causes wide spread leakage? My blue satin has a very dark blue head, neck, back, and tail with a lighter underside and faint lacing on his chest.

On smooth feathering, it's pretty easy to tell leakage from base color. It's the silkied feathering that kind of helps it blend in. Apparently, it's pretty common for Silkies, especially females, to have silver leakage that just isn't noticeable as a result of this.

The darkened cape and saddle you're seeing on that guy is pretty typical of male coloring in blues. The masculine feathering is darker than regular blue feathering, resulting in this look of having a dog-like saddle marking. His head being so dark might indicate that he has the charcoal melanizing gene, though, as it tends to darken the head. That's the gene that helps make moorhead-type patterns, like in Black-Crested White Polish.

His lacing is really nice, though! I've heard that there are various reasons for lacing to be sharper or thicker like that, including being based on ER birchen instead of E extended black and having the pattern gene despite not having the other genes to have full lacing like in Sebrights or Wyandottes. Andalusians are selected specifically for this bold, thick lacing, resulting in them being some of the most beautiful birds in Blue I've ever laid eyes on.

I had that blue satin in with my chocolate silkie, so most of the eggs hatching from her are likely that cross! I'm so curious to see the chicks! I'm expecting just black and blue, but... what if there are light colored chicks!?!

Well, we had a bit of a wild ride today! We had a 1 1/2 hour power outage and then a short 5 or so min one. Luckily hubby was home for the first one, let me know and threw towels over the incubators. The chicks are 3 1/2 weeks old and the room was 68 degrees so they cuddle piled together and other than making their little chittering complaints, they were fine.

Hopefully all the eggies are OK, I know two ladies with eggs going and neither have power back yet. What a wild day! Trees down, fires, power outages, the one electric provider here had over 121 separate outages at one point and they are saying it will be a few days to restore all the power.

Wow! That’s worse than my recent power outage, that was caused by a thunderstorm, and a tornado that struck a few towns away! (Ohio)
