Chonkers is my satin paint, split to chocolate with leakage rooster. He's not the most typey, but I find him totally adorable, and he's super sweet. I have only hatched out layer crosses with him, but I really want to put him over a black silkie hen I have and see if I can get some clean paints! He'll break up big girl fights, but he's never made an aggressive move toward a human, so he's getting to remain with my one layer flock for now.

He tries so hard to be big, he's about half the size of most of the layers and at best, 1/3 of the biggest layer in there.

This chick on the right is a chocolate paint daughter of his, I think from an EE hen. We're keeping her all 3 chicks are the same age, the huge one is from our EE rooster, middle is a purebred black Ameraucana.



The BBS wormhole, oh my gosh, it's been crazy. The need to have good clean gened birds I think I have some better BBS silkies now as far as color genes go, but have to weed out the ones with loose wings. I started with BBS because I thought it would be simpler and still give me 3 colors of chickens to enjoy

You know much more than I about the genetics. All still so confusing.
But I'm so excited for the BBS Silvers to hatch. Much better genes also and same breed standard so everything I have learned so far at least still applies. Still so overwhelming, tho for me.

The highlight of my day is having to 'supervise' the babies out free ranging. Forget everything else that needs done and just focus on stressing about getting good pics.

Yes! I love the stress relief time with the chicks and chickens brings.

Here's my hubby with his new favorite cockerel, from his favorite rooster that we had to part ways with. He's sleeping, not dead! But look at that relaxed little bugger
