Miscellaneous Meeps - Hatching my Dreams

The bantam EE Raven can somehow fly over the top of the inner partition of the coop, it's 7 feet high!!! I thought maybe she was looking for a place to roost so I added this little bantam foot sized limb tonight. She's about 3 moths old, just a tiny thing, so I'm surprised at her vertical flight ability! Yesterday so made it up and over and into the pen where I have a silkie cockerel. I'm glad he didn't hurt her, he's 6 month old now and really interested in the ladies and she's all of 5" tall.

Oh great lol! She's so cute though! The coop is about 4'x7' and half of it is under a big shelf, so she's making it up and out of a 4x3.5 opening. We had planned to expand the overhead storage shelf to cover rest of that coop, we just hadnt done it yet and I didnt think that tiny thing would be able to get out of there!

And she looks proud of her flying abilities too!

Yes she does! She was looking hard at the top of the coop even while I was getting her roost ready.

Star is a character, he's a lover and a biter. He chomps down on whatever skin he can reach, clamps his little gator jaws down and won't let go. He doesn't peck multiple times or come across as an attack, he just has to get his one big bite in then once you get free of his beak, he's good to go.

I've been taking him out each evening and spending time with him. He really enjoys getting petted and he'll fall asleep. It's really cute, but yowza, that initial bite is usually very painful!

Oh that's a good idea! I've been wearing a heavy overshirt, but it's darn hot

He's so funny because once he gets a bite in, he just settles down and is happy to be held. I had him out last night and he immediately got all relaxed, his head got bobble-y and his eyes closed. Pretty cute.

I hope he doesn't get any worse. Norman has decided to attack my hubby, but doesn't bother me and he used to be so sweet and gentle. Chonkers still holds the title for nicest rooster on the property!

My Wyatt is sort of the same way, pretty chill and easygoing with people but if you reach toward him suddenly, CHOMP. I think in his case, though, it's a reaction of surprise, so I've had to learn to be careful about things like reaching into the coop for their feeders if I don't know where he is. He's otherwise such an easygoing guy (if a bit full of himself, as roosters often are ) that I can't believe it's any kind of outright human aggression.
