Miss Nettie made shoes for chickens!! UPDATE !! BUMBLE HEALED!!

Very clever. I love Laurel's coloring.

I'm so glad they worked pretty well! We'll have to tweak a few things and see if we can't make it just right. Did they stay on well? Were the tubes for the toes big enough or could they be thinner?

I'm sorry to see your husband got such a nasty scratch! Ming mei just gave me a good one today under my neck while trying to put her shoes on. She's got to wear them everyday all day and putting her shoes on each night can be, well, difficult. She's a very feisty duck with really sharp toenails!

For future reference, i put a towel around my duck and over her head to help calm her. It does take two people. I usually hold her up and try to hold her hip joints down so i don't hurt her. Then i get a helper like joe to slide her foot in. It usually take a few attempts, with some days being easier than others.... She may be difficult, but it's really helping her feet. I showed my shoes to our vet and she gave me orders to keep em on her feet everyday to prevent further bumblefoot problems. (Ming's are reoccurring and never seem to quite go away.)

Do let me know what kind of adjustments need to be made! And let me know how Laurel does!

UPDATE!!! ( better late than never lol)
After 3 days , Laurel's bumblefoot cleared up! Gone! Not a scab in sight! clean, healthy skin! I was going to cut the toes of the shoe down a little, but with all the mud and puddles and soggy ground, I figured I would leave well enough alone. The insides of the shoe around the top of the toe got a little muddy, but where the bumble was stayed totally clean and dry. I think the test shoes worked great!!

Wow I missed this post but how cool!!!! I will have to keep you in mind if the silly hen of one of my 4-H'rs doesnt do better after this round with bumble foot. And Bumble Head is way to funny

Wow, that is great! Would have been great to have when we had a guinea with bumblefoot. We wrapped with guaze and then put a baby sock taped over that to keep clean and keep her from taking it off. This would have been sooooo much better.

and here i thought you were kidding when you said you put shoes on your chicken... but now I understand the dh picture.

I thought he was trying to make one sit on his shoulder like a parrot or something.

Nope, I seriously put a shoe on a chicken.. LOL

ETA: We have 2 African Gray parrots- he wouldn't dare let them sit on his shoulder- he calls them Pirranah with beaks! He darn near got a piercing from one of them.
