Miss Quackers, our "Handi-Quacked" Pekin

Has anyone here ever rigged up leg braces?

I see temporary braces for splay leg shown in diagrams.

Some kind of wheeled platform to take some weight off?

Just thinking

I have a handicapped Pekin as well. I hatched her out in the house and from the get go she always turned her left foot inward a bit. Around 7 weeks of age she stopped putting her left foot completely to the ground when she walked..technically her foot touches the ground but the stub at the end of her leg doesn't touch the ground. She walks/waddles, she runs, she swims faster than the bigger ducks. She's my little darling and precious as can be. We've never been able to find anything wrong with her leg/foot, she doesn't protest when you squeeze or touch her leg/foot. She knows that she has me wrapped around her wing the little booger LOL

I even had to wait to get home to see the pics of Miss Matilda. Stupid filter on the work computers. She looks gorgeous, despite her feet.

Anyway- as for Miss Matilda.... Shadowhills Farm- I will also Pm you ......

You say she sometimes uses her wings- I watched the Video- and was glad for the visual- I had envisioned something much different. The wings go out for balance, but the fact that she isnt having to use them as "extra legs" is good. She is quite mobile to , and gets aroung fairly well, although Im sure it does get destressing at times for you to watch her.
Swimming would be a good way for her to keep strength in her legs without putting pressure on the joints.
Its sometimes hard to know what is best for an animal when they cant talk- but if she isnt in any pain- I dont see why she cant live a normal life- with your help. Disabled ducks can take a lot of time- But well worth it in my opinion.

This is my little girl. She is an Indian Runner. Thats her bad leg you can see. She cant move her toes anymore, and the leg is held up next to her body when she stands up. Although she is just over 7 weeks old- I have 2 week old Pekin ducklings that are already bigger than her.

Today I am going to be devoting my time to some research about a support or wheelchair...

Might be able to make a wheel chair out of some old K-Nex or whatever that lego knockoff was called lmao

Well, then, YOU can make it for Quackers- I am sure she will love you

Thanks for the PM. Yes she does use her wings a lot to move quicker. There are some days where she doesn't want to go outside and free range. If she does, she just sits either by the hay pile or under the pine tree. There are also some days where she will not want to go swimming. I'm afraid that the cold gets to her too fast to do any therapy. I may have to start bringing her in to swim with some warmer water, and I'm sure she will not like swimming by herself.

I am also going to see if I can get any meds for her...not sure if I can, but I'll try my best

Thanks for all the help!

We have sorta figured out a plan for a wheelchair for her....

Is there anything I can give topically( I think that's the word I want to use) to help with the swelling? I have Mineral Ice, Liniment, Epsom salts, etc....
