If you want it really black use a little carob powder. The dark brown breads don't appeal to me as much as the nearly black breads.

Sounds good. Carob powder is a substitute for cocoa if you have it. The cocoa will make it dark too.

that recipe is for a bread machine, which i don't use, so i am going to have to use my noggin.

thanks for the tip about the carob powder. we always had carob when i was growing up instead of chocolate. so yummy.
