missing chick..........

Im so sad, we cant find my banty hen Cheeks..sniff.
All of the others were in the coop, even her best buddy Raven, but not her.
My family and I searched , but no luck. Its dark now. We are all heart broken, she is so sweet and young.
Its going to be hard to sleep tonight.

My husband just went out to look again..This will be our first loss (of a chick.) We have grown so attatched to all of them.
Im not liking this

We just lost our 7-year old BR hen("Gus") to a predator in June. I, being the well-adapted individual I am, stayed up the whole night crying and drinking a scotch whilst watching a really bad movie. The next day, I ordered 2 guard geese, a replacement BR, a shotgun, shooting lessons, a live trap, and a memorial headstone. I also took the day off work--which my coworkers thought highly amusing.

It is so hard to loose a little one--but do your best to protect the ones you have. I made the coop more secure (although she was attacked outside) by putting (more) rabbit wire up, making sure our horses' hot wire is always on, and honestly thinking about putting some razor wire along the top of our wood fence--all in memory of Gus---because, even though it wasn't time for her or Cheeks to go, you know that they would have wanted you to learn from it and use it to protect the others, and channel your grief and frustration into some positive energy that will make life better for your girls.

This has happened to us a lot of times. Anymore, if it's a hen, it's during warm weather, and she dissapears without a trace, we don't worry about it too much til she's been gone over two months! We have actually had them "missing" that long! One of our Shaver Red hens just came back; we haven't seen her since the end of May. She's buddying with another hen and sitting on eggs now. I mean it was like, wait a minute....WHAT???? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN????!!! She won't say!
