I have 8 chickens that are 11 weeks old. This morning there were only 7 in the coop I went back on security cameras that last time she was seen was 6:50pm they were all following a rabbit to the backyard. 10 minutes later 7 came back from the back. What could have happened?

Update now today we lost another around the same time. There are now feathers off into the long grass (we live next to a farm field) I’m not sure what to do

I don't have a lot of room and can't afford buy chicks in large numbers .I kept mine locked up until they start laying so predators can't eat them. Chicken nuggets are a snack for a big predator but a meal for a big snake or a bird of prey

I suspect whatever is getting yours is in the field they're exploring. My chickens won't go near the woods since something got 2 this spring. They stick much closer to the house

If you found one missing in the coop move them to a safer place and cover all openings .You can't have any hole bigger than 1/2" or predators like rats and minks can get in.Bigger openings will let a raccoon or fox in

Can you trim the grass and weeds back farther even if it's not your property? Or put up some fencing to discourage them from going there?

Maybe go out there and make some noise around that time of day.
Take a rifle if you have one JIC.

They must not have seen anything happen to the first one or they would be afraid of the area.

Mine would be.
