I live in a suburban area and my chicken is missing. The coop is in the backyard and they have access the the whole backyard. He's about 18-20 weeks old, leghorn, and probably a rooster. About 1 hours 30 mins hours ago my neighbor said he saw the chicken running around in the front of our house, but I so far haven't seen him when walking around the neighborhood. He doesn't really come when I call but I was still snapping and asking around. Will my chicken return home? We live in Texas and its very very hot here. I don't know what to do and I'm panicking.

Do you have other chickens? Are they out in the yard? I would put out food and water for him. Did he jump up on and over your fence? I hope that he shows up before dusk. Usually they will want to return to their coop and roost before dark.

I have one other chicken, and we think shes a hen. They are in the backyard, but its closed off like a normal suburban backyard. Most likely she wiggled out or flew out. Im going back out to look for them soon.

If you normally shake something to call them for a treat, do that. They may hear you and run toward the noise. Open a gate and place the the food and water there. Chickens can easily jump over a 4 foot chain link fence if they can jump up on the rail. You may need to keep them in a run if they return. Have you had them long?
