You can always supplement insects and see if you notice a change. I'm in total agreement your hens should be eating layer, not grower. To supplement greenery in winter alfalfa hay is an easy fix.
Your poll does not have an option for my opinion. My hen's eggs have a normal, rich aroma and texture. I recently bought a carton of store eggs to bribe the neighbor's dog while I filled her food and water. The store eggs were simply boiled. The texture was like rubber and the aroma was stale farts at best. :)

Hello. What I feed is a Grower/Finisher feed. 16% protein. I feed twice a week either scratch grains, Romain Lettuce hearts, Cooked spaghetti squash, cucumber, Apple, broccoli, Cabbage or cooked pasta. In winter I also toss some alfalfa hay in the Run for extra greens.
My eggs are great tasting and smell good. Plus these are Silkie Chickens.

@chickens really I'm surprised you don't eat duck eggs! I have to say I was a bit skeptical at first, but my ducks have proven to be better layers than my chickens so we always seem to have duck eggs available, even now, the first start up laying again for spring was a duck. Now I'm hooked and when I have both available tend to go for the duck eggs first.

I plant some wheat/rye/oats under pallets right in the run (along with growing it outside the run for them) so it comes up past the pallets they can eat it but not scratch it all up destroying it in the "off season" FWIW
That is such a good idea!!!

I know exactly what you mean - i think it is aging nose / taste buds - I'm sure eggs tasted more eggy when I was a kid on the farm!
