Missing eggs?

I put 12 fertile eggs under our broody hen on the 17th and there are only 8 now! Where did the others go?

Eaten possibly? Or discarded somewhere else?

One disappeared from the nest my hen is sitting on, too. I did a frantic search of our cartons hoping that I hadn't taken it by accident. I even candled most of them just to be sure.

I never found it so I have no idea what happened. Very strange.

I have a broody that is on 18 eggs now. there were only15 a few days ago, yet there is parts of 4 shells. No evidence that they were active. I am puzzled too. Are the other girls or Roo in the flock egg eaters? Ireallywanaknow...She sat on the first clutch of 8 about the 20th, they got marked with an X. They are still there.

Okay, now there is 6! It's day 17, wouldn't I see dead chicks if they were opened?

If they weren't taking the hen discards them, they seem to know, I think personaly they eat them to get of the "evidence"

She must have been hiding two of them because I saw 8 today!
