We have a mixed flock of 6 young hens. Two are the same breed and both of them are missing feathers on their lower back and neither of them are laying eggs now. I do not have a rooster and I haven’t noticed them being picked on. I’m guessing they are doing it to themselves. I’m thinking maybe feather mites? But I’m not sure how to treat them if that is the case. Also, since we have been 10 days stuck at home (Covid-19) I don’t want to treat them with something that would hinder us from eating the flocks eggs. I ordered Sulfer but IdK how to use it I also added apple cider Vinegar to thier water and I have a dust bath with wood ash and dio ein their run and allow free range time daily. I’d love any advise. Thank you so much!

Generally what you describe is the result of feather plucking/eating on the part of a flock mate. Generally the bird in best feather condition is the culprit. If it were parasites of any sort, I would expect all of the flock to be afflicted.

Okay thanks. I wonder how I get them to stop🤷🏻‍♀️ Do I need to add more protein? Thanks for your response.
