Missing Guineas!

sorry about your lost'
probably, guineas that vanish during the breeding season are usually killed or wet to to broody.
Yeah, we assume it was a Fox, or owl or something. We have a crazy amount of predators around here. We even had a mink living under the house last winter!!:rantThat booger got several birds before we realized He was there.

Well Glenn a bet:lol:ter question

Well a better question might be what kind of chickens don't I have!! We have RIR, Barred rocks, Partridge rocks, BO, Brown leghorn, Light Brahma, Black astralorp, EE, Amberlinks, Silver Laced Wyndotte, and golden laced wyndottes. As well the guineas & turkeys. Everyone shares the same coop, never any issues.

Oh my! What a lovely variety you have. Eventually, I'd like to add to the chickens we have here. They came because of the guineas - the 5 RIR's provided company, or as I called it "a circle of friends" to a lone male while I was waiting for a shipment of keets to replenish the flock and the Orps are for brooding abandoned eggs, if necessary.

I love the look of the Partridge rocks and Wyndottes. Pretty patterns and colors! You must have one BIG coop to keep them all together. How many birds in all? Glad to hear that they all get along. My two flocks of guineas are rivals, that's why they are in separate coops and the chickens intermix and keep everyone in line! I enjoy having them added to the mix. Very different personalities from my guineas.

Keep warm there and enjoy your birds.

We have a very large coop, with a half acre fenced in run for times we can't let them free range. We also have a fantastic brooder set up for when they are old enough to go outside. We all together have 64 chickens, 6 guineas, and 2 adult turkeys (the others were thanksgiving for friends and family, and one donated to Christ table). Thanks trying to stay warm. Woke up to quarter inch of freezing rain this morning, then 2ins of snow on top of that. Sled riding with the kids...and dogs lol :wee

Oh, I meant to ask you, what is your favorite color of guinea? I have pearl ones. But am thinking of adding lavender. They are just beautiful. Do you ever breed for different color combinations?

My all time favorite is Pearl... you just can't beat a classic!

My original flock was mail order - 16 pearl French Jumbos. I loved them for many reasons, but their size and inability to fly made them easy pickings for predators here so I have transitioned over to regular domestics for the most part and got a variety of colors, just because they are easier to count and keep track of.

The pearled pieds are very attractive - that light and dark combo is stunning with the red wattles. My lavenders are Jumbos, but not French. They are a bit smaller and fly just as well as the domestics - a plus for survival. The French were more hoppers than fliers. My royals are very attractive too and some have a bronzing on the wing - called a Cedar Wing.

I only had one Jumbo French left going into breeding season last spring, but none of his females' (he had 3) eggs were fertile. I also had one domestic pearl male at the time and he bred with a domestic pearl female and a French Jumbo female. "Friday", a keet from the domestic pair was hatched in the barn on a Friday. I had to rescue her from her mother who was all about eggs, but not keets! And "Elwood" was hatched in the incubator because his mother, "Ella" a French Jumbo was killed by a fox. He is much bigger than the Jumbo Lavenders and appears to be the Alpha male of that group of 12.

I'll try to get some pics to send you. Would love to see some of yours as well. Enjoy your sledding.

Wow, it sounds like u have a gorgeous group of birds! I would love to see them. I would like to post pics of my birds, but I'm not able too??? When I try to post pics a box pops up on my screen saying, "unable to preform previous action due memory" ???? Not sure why. This is why I don't have an avatar pic. :hmm

Too bad you are not able to post photos. Not sure what is going on with that. Sometimes I post from my phone where my photos are and sometimes I send the photos to our computer and download them and then post them from there. Usually I don't have a problem but it's more cumbersome than anything else. Here is a royal.
