Missing keel feathers

So I’ve noticed the past week or so a few of my ducks are missing keel feathers it started with one duck and now a couple more are missing theirs also are they doing this to themselves and why? I’ve looked online and all I can find is that it’s part of molting is this true? Or is there something else going on I should worry about? Advice please

They do have like little prickly new fathers coming out yes

I’ve never seen one molt quite that much at 9 weeks!

Agreed. This must be something else. Can we get pictures of your bedding? Have you checked for mites? Is their bedding wet?

Is your temperature really hot? I vaguely remember some of my my ducks doing something similar about that age (it was three years ago), and we had gotten really hot. Mine were just molting but the heat seemed to make it go faster. It looked like someone broke open a feather pillow or two.

My duck had something very similar but a little lower on the chest. She was about 7 months old. But it was the same bald patch with little feathers.

It got better after 2 weeks.
