missing toenails?

Ok, I hatched some appenzeller spitzhauben, some were missing toenails on a toe or two. What causes this? They don't seem to be affected by it and none have grown any after the fact

. Should these be culls? Is it genetic?

Sounds genetic to me. I guess you'd cull depending on your breeding plans.

I just wanted to keep a trio, not going to show. I actually got them more for my daughter, she really likes the look of the breed. Thanks for the quick reply silkiechicken

i have one chicken with no middle toenails. she does just fine, but wouldn't be a breeding chicken. it looks really weird!
