My chicken named nugget is missing. I didn’t see her all day today and when I checked back outside during the night, she wasn’t there. I went out looking for her but no luck. I really hope nothing bad happened to my chicken. My family doesn’t really care that much like I do because they see her as just a chicken, but she means something to me you know. She’s not just a chicken to me. If you have any advice please I’m all ears. She is the darker brown one.

Unfortunately, Free ranging doesn’t comes without heartache sooner or later.
To better help you with preditors, please go to your Profile and update a location for you.
By doing this, people on BYC can help you figure out the preditors you have. Such as...I'm in Central Florida, and my preditors are different than Wyoming or Canada.

Im really sorry i hope she comes back i totally understand its like losing a child to me my husband like ' sam its just a chicken' totally get ya. All i can suggest is look round your estate, try call and shake some treats ... again we dont know where u are predator wise. Unfortunately as been said its lovely to free range give them more space etc but can come with its negative points i hope u find her good luck keep us updated.

When did you first notice her missing? How has she been acting lately? Could she have sneaked off to start brooding somewhere on a secret nest? Good luck, I hope she turns up soon!

As @BigBlueHen53 suggested is she laying shoeing broodiness could gone off to make a nest somehere with hidden eggs do u have a rooster? Xx

I do not have a rooster and she is not laying just yet. She hasn’t come home this morning so I think a predator got her. And if I find the predator who killed her I’m killing them to and you can believe me on that

My chicken named nugget is missing. She’s been missing all day yesterday, and when I went out at night she still wasn’t home. I waited till this morning and she’s still not home. Will she come home tonight? No she’s not old enough to lay yet. I really do hope she comes home. I HIGHLY doubt she got attacked by a predator because my chickens are more alert then someone on cocaine. Please if anyone has advice, I am all ears. I also live in Hawaii and the only prey I know of is mongoose or cats.

I'm afraid your both right and wrong.. looking at the photos she is not old enough to lay.. which unfortunately also means she is NOT simply broody and hiding a nest. A bird that is not broody or laying will do EVERYTHING in it's power to return to it's flock as they are creatures of habit and there is safety in numbers.

Mongoose and cats are both very possible predators to a small chicken. Please note there are MANY aerial predators and domestic dogs cannot be understated as a threat... presuming you have both those as possibilities.. Other unsuspecting chicken predators that you may have.. rats, skunk, opossum, anything in the mink/weasel family.. I know your on an an island but with so much shipping (including illegal pet trade with lots of folks keeping ferrets) etc.. hardly anywhere is an secured island unto it's own these days. And most folks simply don't realize their true predator load.

I'll be surprised if your gal returns!

Both prior posters came up with fantastic possibilities I hadn't considered but are great ideas actually.. consider posting flyers or on your local lost and found if there is one!

Any of your neighbors have a larger flock?

My neighbors do have a flock and I asked them if they seen her/have her and they told me no. And between us I’ll sometimes go snooping around peoples yards looking for her
