Does anyone have a first baby name picked out? I think ours is supposed to be called Miss Pretty, because the last baby that hatched out was called Miss Pretty, but then I changed it to Kimmie to name it after myself since it was born on my birthday. Awwww, a namesake. Better than buying yourself a star. And just so we don't get a bad rumor started on her, my name is not Kimmie, just Kim

My little pipper is getting very loud now and when she knocks on the shell, she is making a big impact.
Come on, baby. Hatch out so you can encourage everyone else.

I'm going to bed for a bit. Hope to get up soon and see if my little baby is making more progress. Right now she is through the membrane and the shell is off around the area and you can see the beak moving. I think the cereal did me in

Yeah! Miss Pretty will be out soon, I bet!

Here is Baby 1 making a nest of eggs around her. They must be warm because she's been in the middle of them for like an hour...She is still a little wet. Hope she doesn't chill the unhatched eggs. These 2 chicks made the humidity go up to 75%.



Here is baby #2. She is soooo sleepy. (I think I'm going to do the same thing and catch some zzzzzzzzzzz)

Hi!!!! Cute baby. Wow, 23....that will be a lot of fun. What breed are they? I have 16 in, but only one pip. It has been like that most of the day too. But once it woke up a little bit ago, it started doing some serious work. I think it is working really hard and then taking little naps in between. I'm not doing anything but sitting here talking on the phone, typing on the computer and surfing the Web and I am so tired. All I can think at this point is coffee...no, cereal....coffee....no, cereal. Kind of defeats the purpose of a salad for dinner LOL

Well, we got 20 shipped eggs before this and only got 2 live babies, So I wasn't expecting QUITE so many starters, lol. I know people are looking for dark egg layers around here so I'm hoping we can sell some excess, because I also found 3 showgirls on craiglist who needed to come home with us, so there seems to be a LOT of birds out there. Plus my oh so docile Orphinghton has turned into a terrorist who backs all the new chickens into a corner and yells at them at daybreak!

May I introduce Miss Pretty.....and she scooted the egg next to her around and we can see a pip on it! Come on baby, tell the others to get up and shake it.

She's soooo tiny and fragile looking.

And special thanks to my son, who has stayed up all night to watch the chic be born and made sure to drag me up just as she was coming out of the shell.

Morning all! I'm so sorry to have missed the excitement last night. I can't wait to see/hear how many chicks are in the bators this morning! I love waking up to a whole slew of new chicks!

My kind husband (who is a lot less interested in chickens than I am) has been sending me texts to update me as my chicks hatch. My first one was born less than an hour after I had to leave... I was so close to seeing her hatch!

As of last night when my husband went to bed, I was up to four chicks! I'm still waiting on an update this morning. Here's the photo he sent of the first one:

You're right WholeWheat, isn't it so much more fun to hatch a long with other people who are equally excited?? It would be so boring if I had to keep my enthusiasm to myself. And a lot of people just don't get it...

Congratulations on Miss Pretty and all the new chicks! We had one more this morning. Another black girl with feathered legs. ( they are ALL girls until proven otherwise) The one silkie who pippped at 12 PM or so yesterday still isn't doing anything, I'm getting worried. One other Silkie is showing progress and we have a few pips. today is day 21 for us, so exciting! And Thank you for making this thread its so fun to share.
