Missouri Poultry Clubs?

I enjoyed the Chicken Coop tour that I did last fall in south St. Louis I was thinking it would be cool to have a coop tour out in this part of the town but I'm not sure if anyone wants St. Charles county finding out they have chickens in their backyard if they live in a "residential zoned" area. I have to go to court for my chickens next week.

I think its amazing that there are 3 officers on the MSPA board within 15 miles of Springfield MO, and there is not one club that I have found in the SW MO area pertaining to the BYC groups. Whats up with that??? Are they just concerned about corporate production and the BYC people don't really concern them?

Just what does the MSPA do?? Should there be a separate wing of the MSPA that promotes and handles individuals who raise the BYC population? Or maybe better yet, a state organization the just promotes the lifestyle of the smaller quantity poultry owners? Just thinking out load here. Whats everyone think???

Yes, I also just found the meet up group in St. Louis. Actually, I was in the process of filling out the info to see about starting a meet up group here in SW Missouri, Springfield area. Thanks for the info. Anyone else in the area, please get in touch with me about any interest you may have in possibly joining a meet up group and possibly starting our own club. Can't wait to hear from you all.

Update: The meet-up website cost about $36.00 per year for the first six months. I'll need to see the interest before I can commit to sign up for that. MAYBE, BYC would be interested in starting such a service. Hint, Hint!!!

I also have a few others in the near area that will be interested. I know there are more out there that would be interested, just need another good avenue to get the word out.

HI,

I'm in Kansas City, Missouri, and a newbie. My hens are coming next week: 2 Barred Rocks (one a pullet), 2 Auracanas, 2 Black Australorps (one a pullet). I will have a large saltbox style coop with an attached run, however will be building onto the run to make it as large as my space will accommodate. (Hopefully as much as 16'x8') I'm new to this, so I am worried about the heat during the summer. I had planned to build all of this next to a privacy fence on the north side of my property....however, that will make the coop and run facing south, which means it will have full sun from about 8:30 am until about 6:00 PM. I could build a roof over half of the run for shade, but it will still get pretty hot. During the winter this would be an advantage. Will this end up frying my chickens?

Yay, KC! There are quite a few people keeping chickens where I live. Forgot to mention my Doberman, 2 cats, and er...three sons now in their 20's. (All of which think I've lost it to decide to buy chickens.)
