Hi Y'all-
I'm from Weaubleau That's 50 miles from ANYWHERE
50 to Springfield on US13
50 to KS on US 54
50 to Lake of the Ozarks on US 54
We have
4 1 yr old sex-link/leghorns. The 3 girls are very productive.
3 now assorted feather footed banty roosters a cochin (?) What looks to be a dark silverlaced leghorn - a mean little sex crazy white one - he's a sweetie unless you're a chicken or a cat or a dog... We lost one of the pretty guys to a 'possum this morning-
We bought 25 mixed heavy breed pullets from Estes in Springfield- got home with 28 lost one the first night and still have 27. They're 8 weeks - have been on grass - "free ranging" the front yard for a month.
DOGS- Cats
There are dogs that will watch over the other animals but, they are the exception not the rule. We went through 10 dogs before Bubba worked out.
We let our resident predators see, then interact with the new chicks a little at a time. After a month - the chicks belong here- or the offending animal gets sent off to a new home.
We've been lucky with wild predators until this morning- the villan struck just before 7, something tore open the door, drug out one of the fancy roosters and bit off his head on the spot. It happens- we have a cure-
I have some questions on the Meat Birds Forum- I'd appreciate some advice especially from folks in the area.
