How do you know if chickens have mites? How do you treat it? Thanks folks!

Hi, welcome to BYC!

I'm following along. I know the scaly leg mites cause the leg scales to look raised and if it's bad they will develop scabs. A lot of chickens even slow or quit laying eggs. But I don't have any personal experience with mites on chickens yet.

Ok, the video was good, going to buy a bag of it today. I need to make some sort of net to catch them with. I am 60 and have fibromyalgia so I am not as good at catching them as I once was. Lol.

If you are talking about catching you chickens, It is really easy once they have gone to roost in the evening.

Good luck!

I took a plastic Maxwell House coffee can, the one with the built in handle on the side, and drilled a bunch of holes in one side area of the lid. That's what I put my DE in and use it like a big salt shaker. It works well for dusting the coop and run because it helps get a light, even layer in there without a bunch of piling up.
