Ok I have recently moved chicks out into a chick house (ok it's been about 2 weeks) and tonight the hubby came in after putting the chicks away and he had what looked to be mites on him (made him strip and put his clothes and everything I know he came into contact with in the wash.

My question how the heck do I get rid of them off chicks? I have mitye powder and spray and stuff some place and just bought more.. but I have chicks as young as 4 weeks out there is it safe to use? also none of them look ill or anything of the like I normally check them every day and saw no signs. worse yet they have all had their homes clean with mite stuff :(.

Before you spray or dust your chicks check them over carefully for signs of mites or lice. Also, there are some mites that do not live on chickens but spend their time in crevices in the chicken house during the day. So check the chicks after dark as well as the surfaces in the coop.

Permethrin should be perfectly safe for chicks. I wouldn't use Sevin on them.

I never heard of either of those as I'm in the UK but I'll check them out and see if I can find something like the one u started is ok for chicks. Can't sleep now as I feel like stuff I is crawling on me even tho I have check like a zillion times and nothing is there lol

Yeah, I know that feeling. Just the thought of those creepy varmints makes me itch and cringe.

Spinosad is sold under the label Elector PSP and you can order it off Amazon. It's pricey but highly concentrated and goes a long way. I really like it as it only requires one application to be effective on bugs as well as eggs.
