Thank you so much!!

I was reading about de and many people dont know how bad it is and how it doesnt work.

I was going to go and buy some thinking its great?! Now i know. I will get rid of that powder and any de products if i have some.

Now any reccomendations on permethrin spray? Where can i get some? Maybe online?

I had a really bad outbreak of red mites (thanks to the resident rats that we are constantly at war with) and I found thousands of the horrid little critters living quite happily in the deep bed of DE I had under the bedding in my nestboxes. It certainly wasn't killing them or keeping their numbers in check. It was a nightmare! There's not a lot available in NZ to treat with (and what I did try was useless) so I resorted to Neem oil which has really worked in my coop.

Good luck in getting rid of them - just remember to keep treating until you can find no trace of them. I'd treat at least 3 times to ensure you break the cycle.

I’d have a makeshift incubator for future reference. There’s a few on YouTube made with super cheap stuff, that work with decent monitoring.
I’ve had great success with foam cooler incubators as full time incubators.

This is the spray.

When I clean them out I sprinkle some of the powder in the bottom of nest boxes and use a soft brush to get it into the corners and nooks and crannies. Then I put an inch or two of shavings then straw on top. If it gets bad, as in you can feel the mites on yourself when you go in the coop, I use the spray first but you must let it dry out before putting the powder down. You must also do all the perches and other places in the coop. Im never 100% mite free so it it is more about controlling it. The hens will deal with them aswell if they have a decent dust bath to scratch around in. Mites will become more prevalent with the warmer weather.
