HELP! broody died eggs are dying

Hmm i am not sure it did.

I think with all the fuss of their mum dying and being out in the cold then moving in under a homemade incubator type i made and then moving again because of an infestation of mites. It didnt do them any good.

3 of the eggs were not viable. And some of them were dead. The ones that could have hatched didnt make it due to my limited knowledge on how to help them.

I did apply the oil to the membrane but i fear the chick was dead long ago. I didnt hear any peeps or anything. I think i left it too late when i began to assist. :hit
Lesson learned!
I think the light might have been a problem. (too hot)
I say this only because I just used a light bulb WITH a working thermometer and it was TOO hot and had to be turned off quite often.

It doesn't really matter at this point...we can all guess and come up with different thoughts, we will never know.
Should this ever happen again maybe you will be a little more prepared to handle the situation.

Have you treated your other birds and coop yet for the mite problem?

Yes I know right!
The eggs were never going to make it anyway and maybe they had a better chance with us.

I will go to invest in a good themometer soon.

Yes I have treated everyone although it is hard to get all the coop dusted and cleaned. Its raining again!

Im at it again tomorrow, just brushing up and wiping surfaces.

I am not sure how the powder/dust works.
I do know that if you were to use a liquid/spray it might be easier to get all the cracks of the coop.
;)

Cheap thermometers work well if you calibrate them.
Add calibrating thermometers to your list of things to look up.
It's very easy.

The powder (what it says on the tub) works by coating everything and suffocating the mites and other bugs.
I like the powder it does go everywhere, and i mean EVERYWHERE! not good for me.. i have a dust allergy hahaa

I do have some spray also. I did want to do it on a nice day so its all nice and clean.

Again..I do not know this powder but I am thinking it can't/won't work if it gets wet.
I may be thinking of DE though.

I have tried this powder before. It really works! I will have a look online for you.
Its not like DE. The coop is mostly sheltered so should not get too wet. But you know how it is when its raining. Its all muddy and wet.
