HELP! broody died eggs are dying

*If* you have the proper supplies, and *if* you can adjust temperature and humidity properly. You can't just throw some stuff together and hatch chicks.

I don't know... @KikisGirls MacGyvered together a ghetto bator with reasonable success ;) I'd say it depends how many knowledgeable BYCers you have offering advice on the build and what kinds of things you can find in your house.

@Spiderduck you mentioned you have another good broody... Does she currently have eggs under her? I can't wait until I have a broody to pop a few eggs under. I'm certainly not ready for a bunch of eggs in a bator, but a good mama hen would be fun.

It's the "what kinds of things you can find in your house" part that I was thinking of. Not everyone has the proper "things" to MacGyver a ghetto bator together, and I would not have anywhere closer than a 1 1/2 hour drive to get parts.

A good mama hen is great! I love watching a broody with her babies.

'reasonable' is generous......and not many compare with @KikisGirls :D
Super Kiki is what @Farmer Connie likes to call me.
I recommend having a working known thermometer and a working THERMOSTAT for any and all that attempts at making a quick bator.
They are both a must, IMO.

I am very proud of my ghetto bator now.
It worked for a good day or two WITH constant monitoring of the temperature.

Ok ok @KikisGirls and her ghetto bator probably wouldn't have survived a full incubation period, but the way everyone on BYC came together with suggestions made me believe it possible to build an incubator of found household objects
Pstt...I would have made it work..It may have taken a few tries but I am pretty sure I can make it work for a full period.
The thermostat was a must and if I had secured the thermometer part of the thermostat it would not have fallen in the water and we would have ducks right now.

Well my broody is an indian game and she is a very very good mother.

She doesnt want to sit yet, shes not broody yet. Which is fine by me.
Whenever she wants to sit she can. I will 100% take more control over the situation.
But it is very cute to have baby chicks and to raise them up.

It probably drowned in coconut oil

Hmm i am not sure it did.

I think with all the fuss of their mum dying and being out in the cold then moving in under a homemade incubator type i made and then moving again because of an infestation of mites. It didnt do them any good.

3 of the eggs were not viable. And some of them were dead. The ones that could have hatched didnt make it due to my limited knowledge on how to help them.

I did apply the oil to the membrane but i fear the chick was dead long ago. I didnt hear any peeps or anything. I think i left it too late when i began to assist. :hit
Lesson learned!
