I'm with Aart. Just keep going. You can remove the whole air cell end, and have a good look, see for sure what's going on. You said you heard peeping not that long ago- have you checked the other eggs carefully for pips?

Hey all

Its over. I got rid of the eggs which were not viable at all. The ones that are. Did a float test. But honeslty i am unsure what to look for.

The peep that was hatching was dead.

And thats the end of it all.

I'm sorry you lost your hen and your hatch. You did the right thing by trying to care for the eggs and reaching out for advice. Sometimes we have very little control; you did your best. I hope your mite problem is under control and you have another broody soon.

I'm sorry. You did all you could against the odds. Its such a shame it was so close to hatch which is a fairly crucial time in regards to temp and humidity.
Moving on your going to need to throughly clean and demite the coop, run and remaining hens. If you want more chicks it may be worthwhile investing in a incubator. At least you will have control over what happens. I'm real sorry about this. I was so hopefull.
