I have a bad situation. I have about 35 hens and 1 roo. Up until the last month, they've all been very healthy. And then I noticed they are losing feathers. And picking at each other. I thought maybe just molting. I've not been able to keep them as clean as I'd like since I got bit by a dog and had a finger ripped off. So, the coop is in need of attention. Tonight I checked some of the hens and they are infested with mites. Bad. I need advice on how to get rid of these things quickly. I know to clean the coop completely and destroy any bedding. But I've never encountered these things so beyond this, what do I do?

I agree with Kiki - try using permethrin to get rid of the mites. If possible, try to completely and thoroughly clean out the chicken coop, from top to bottom. If doing this yourself isn’t possible, see if you might be able to ask someone if they can help. You might also try sprinkling Diatomaceous Earth everywhere several times a week. If the mites are in your chicken’s legs, try dipping the legs into oil to smother the mites.
Also try to provide your chickens with a nice dry, area to dust bathe, if there aren’t many options for them currently.
I’m so sorry about this - I hope that you’ll have lots of success in getting rid of these bugs! ❤️
