What is the best method to dust a full grown heritage turkey?

The only thing I have found to work is Sevin Dust.. I used Missprissy's idea and made a duster ball out of old pantie hose and it worked great.. Also I have heard of folks using ashes mixed in a dust bath.. But havent tried it myself..

Also DE is a good preventative .. You can add that with the dustbath as well... Good luck

I don't know about turkeys but my goose had bird lice and I tried to go the no chemical way and bath him in dawn dish soap (which my boyfriend thought was absolutely hilarious) The lice showed back up. I had read about and found this stuff called "Garden and Poultry Dust" at Tractor supply. I think it was a thread on here that said the easiest way is to use a pair of panty hose or a knee high. It worked great! I pored some of the powder in to the toe and tied a knot above it. Then I just dust my goose like it was a make-up powdered puff or something like that. It took one application and I haven't had a bit of trouble with lice since. Hope that helps!

do you need to get it under their feathers too: or just the top of them? I just bet this would work for your turkey kody19! Also since it is Permethrin .25% do you know if you need to not use the eggs for 2 weeks following application? Thank you and forgive me for butting in

Most of the dusts are topical and thus don't get into the bird, the eggs are fine. Always check the labels.

What causes major egg issues are the systemic drugs ( wormers for example ) that do get into all of the birds systems.

I don't mind at all. I did use it but none of my flock was laying at the time, so I didn't consider the egg issue. With my goose, I got the top of the feathers but also ruffled them up a little to be thorough. It does say to to make sure to get the area near the vent really well. I just went and read the package. The only thing it mentions as far as the eggs is not to apply the powder directly to the eggs or nesting litter. I would probably not eat the eggs for a few days just to be extra safe.

Would it help if i covered his head with a cloth? Im thinking it would keep him calm+protect him from inhaling anything harmful.

Ivomec pour on, it will take care of the lice and mites as well as most worms.
