Mites! One thing after another...

I do not think you can eliminate them entirely. The wild birds will always bring them in. The only thing you can do is limit the damage to your birds by controlling them in the coop and on the birds.

That makes me feel a little better, as the thought of mites EVERYWHERE was starting to overwhelm me! My smaller birds don't have any VISIBLE mites, so hopefully their bathing techniques are good control. Now if I could get my half cornish x rooster to bathe better!
 
My gals love to dust in peat moss and I mix a little sevin in it during mite season here. It seems to keep them off the birds. My neighbor has a fireplace so he saves his ash for me and I add it during mite season too.

Your rooster may need a little help in the proper bating department lol.
