Mites or Cocci

She is very lively today and laid and egg. I can tell She is very unhappy that she is seperated from her sisters as she knocked over her water dish 2 times already.

Her droppings have firmed up but are still too watery for my liking. I have a list of vets in my area in hopes of at least finding on who is willing to do a fecal float test. If it was up to me I would do a consult with a vet but my husband says no. Before the laws went into effect this year, I grabbed some antibiotics just in case something happened.

I decided since I need to treat the flock for mites/lice (Ivomec) I was also going to do a preventative dosage of Corrid as well. Can I do ProZap Garden and poultry dust on the hens also or is that too much in their system at once?

That looks like mites to me and all the symptoms seem to match. I had an infestation of them trying to get into the chicken coop but they had not gotten to the chickens yet and they were just on one corner of the coop. After all the research that I did regarding mites the best thing that I found was permethrin spray, I don't know if you've tried that or not yet but you can spray it directly on the chicken to then they may start to feel better. From what I've read mites are very draining to the birds and can kill them too so I would look up that spray. The other thing I did was put tobacco in that corner they left. Good luck

The other thing I read up on is that you will need to clean everything and disinfect everything if they have mites also from what I've read this egg's of those things can hatch again so you really want to do a thorough cleaning so they don't infect the other chickens. Good luck

I did a full clean out and disenfecting of the coop yesterday with DE and lime on the bottom and until after my nest dose of Ivomec I changed to a pine shaving and pine pellet bedding to clean out easier. Then after that round of treatment I will go to sand which is what I've always used until I changed to deep litter in the fall.

This hen is back to normal so I put her back out to the run with the flock. I did clean all the waterers and added some Corrid to be sure it wasn't Cocci.

Here is the freshly cleaned coop and roosts

Wow!! Looks great! It sounds like your doing all the right things. I'm glad you mentioned the deep litter method because I was thinking about doing that instead just dirt, which is really easy to clean daily with a corn broom. However there's lots of flies and im working on finding a way to deter them. I think you did a great job and I hope the rest of your summer will be wonderful for you and your hens.
God Bless ☺

This is exactly what my hen seems like, won’t sit or squat, brought her inside and did Epsom soak, she’s infested. And I have one month pullets in the coop with 21 laying hens. Poultry dust, what’s the disagreement of ivomec, I could only find it for horses. Help I’m in tears, I feel so defeated, my girls have been battling lice since December- are we just carrying it all around to each other? I bought permethrin today, always have kept DE in coop and feed, ugh

Not disagreement-dosage! Can I dust bath all the babies too? I have 31 and just got 16 week olds that are separated
