Been having a tough year with chickens after no issues for the last 4 years. Recently been having an eye worm issue in my flock that randomly appeared and have been looking out for that. I noticed one of the hens eye was inflamed and I treated it and gave her ivermectin but noticed these mites on her, I’ve never seen any of the chickens with mites before. I want to catch this early as possible and not sure what species it is, I looked around inside the coop and didn’t see anything but most of the adults have them on their combs. Are these red mites or northern fowl mites and what’s the best way to get rid of these? I also saw online there are stick tight mites which I am not too familiar with.

Those are probably stick tight fleas. You can remove them with tweezers. Spray your area with permethrin.

Any way to prevent these to reappear? Or will they always be an issue in Florida?
