When my daughter collects the eggs she keeps appearing with little black mites over her arms. Can someone tell me what these are and how to get rid of them please?

thanks

well, i'm not exactly sure what your talking about but it sounds like these tiny mites that live on your chickens, they drink the chickens blood and turn the chickens weeker. . .you can get rid of them by paying more attention on the cleansiness of your coop. Also, when your chickens eat grass profide them dirt/ dust, so they can have dust baths in them. . . .that scares of the mites.

if they arent layin many eggs, and arent eating much...sounds like bird mites

they can get them from wild birds or from other people that may have the mites already on them from handling different birds.

you can get sprays or powders to get rid of the mites....clean and quarantine new birdies you bring home

they dont actually "drink" the birds blood. they eat dead skin and sometimes scabs, which does contain blood. But they do not live off blood. and they will not bother humans, just itch you really bad

Hi there, you'll need to replace all nestbox materials & totally clean your coop & perches. You'll need to treat your chickens too..Do you have an area where your chickens dust bathe?
If ya can try your feed store & look for some poultry dust or food grade DE.Mix that in their dust spot. You can use 5% sevin dust (VERY little ) in their dusting spot.
Here's a helpfull link for ya,scroll down to the 4th post (sandrachick) she has a great list of what ya need to do
